A Back Pain Clinic Within the London Borough of Hounslow

Khalil Hussein, our clinic director, is qualified as both a physiotherapist and a chiropractor, and specialises in chronic pain and injury rehabilitation. Malaika Hussain is a chiropractor with a focus on women’s health, including pregnancy and postpartum care. Our practitioners are registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), and we accept insurance, so ask the team about your provider when you book.

Two professions under one roof means your plan can include joint work, soft tissue work and rehab exercise without you being passed between clinics. Follow up sessions last 15 to 30 minutes with one practitioner, and our PhysiTrack app lets you message your practitioner, follow your exercises and track your progress between visits.

When Your Job Is Hard on Your Back

Plenty of work around Hounslow, a borough that sits right beside Heathrow, asks a lot of a back. You might be lifting and carrying, driving for hours, standing through a long shift or working nights that disrupt your routine. Repeated bending and twisting, or hours in a vehicle seat, can load the same part of your spine day after day.

A useful clue is the pattern. If your back eases on days off and flares on shift days, your work is probably part of the picture. Treatment then has two jobs: settle the sore tissues with hands on care, and build a back that copes better with what your job demands. We’ll ask what you do in a typical shift, because the exercises that suit a driver are not the same as those that suit someone loading pallets.

Evening and weekend appointments mean you shouldn’t have to lose a shift to get seen. That matters when pain has you putting treatment off.

Back Pain That Isn’t Settling

The NHS says non specific back pain usually gets better quickly, though it can be painful and upsetting. It also notes that specific causes become more likely when pain is getting worse, or hasn’t improved in the first 4 to 6 weeks.

If you are past that point, a proper assessment is worth booking rather than another week of waiting. Pain that lingers doesn’t mean something is seriously wrong. It often means the real driver hasn’t been found, or that the plan doesn’t match the problem.

At your assessment we look at how you move, where your back is overloaded and what keeps it irritated. We combine hands on treatment with exercise, and NICE places advice to keep active and guidance on self management at the centre of its low back pain approach. If anything suggests you need a GP or a specialist instead, we’ll tell you plainly.

Is It Your Disc, Your Joints or Your Nerves?

Most people turn up with a feeling, not a diagnosis. These common patterns may help you describe yours, though only an assessment can tell for sure.

Does it ache low in the back and ease when you move around? That often fits mechanical low back pain. Does it catch sharply when you twist or lean back? Facet joint dysfunction can feel like that.

Does pain, tingling or heaviness run into your buttock or leg? Sciatica or a herniated or bulging disc may be behind it. Is it deep and low on one side, near the pelvis? Look at sacroiliac joint pain. And if you’ve felt stiff and stooped after years of the same position, postural issues, spinal stenosis or degenerative disc disease could be involved.

Our spinal and back conditions page covers all of these in more detail.

What Your First Visit Involves

Your first appointment is a 60 minute initial consultation. We start by listening to your history, then carry out a full body functional assessment of your movement, posture and joint function.

You’ll then get a plain explanation of what we’ve found, an estimate of recovery time and the treatment options open to you. Treatment can begin that same session if you’re ready, and you’ll leave with exercises set up in PhysiTrack.

When Back Pain Needs Urgent Medical Attention

Some symptoms should go straight to emergency care. The NHS advises calling 999 or going to A&E if back or leg pain comes with changes in bladder or bowel control, numbness around the genitals or anus, new weakness in the legs or feet, or numbness, tingling or burning in both legs or feet. Chest pain or breathlessness with back pain also needs emergency help.

For back pain with feeling hot, shivery or generally unwell, or severe pain that begins suddenly or worsens quickly, the NHS recommends an urgent GP appointment or a call to 111. If that sounds like you, seek that help first.

Back Pain Treatment FAQs

Should I see my GP or come to you first?
Either is reasonable. See your GP first if your pain is severe, getting worse quickly or comes with other symptoms. Otherwise you can book directly with us, online or by phone. If you plan to claim on private medical insurance, check your provider’s requirements beforehand, as some have their own rules.

Can I be seen outside working hours?
Yes. We are open six days a week with evening and weekend appointments, and same day or next day slots are often available.

Can I keep working with back pain?
Often, yes. NICE includes advice to keep active in its support for people likely to improve quickly. The right approach depends on your job and what is causing your pain, so tell us what your work involves and we’ll advise on what to continue and what to change.

How soon will I feel better?
It varies. The NHS notes that non specific back pain usually improves quickly, but we won’t promise a timescale before we’ve examined you. At your first appointment you’ll get an estimated recovery time and a plan.

Do you treat sciatica?
Yes. Your assessment will work out what is irritating the nerve, and treatment usually combines hands on care with exercise. You can read more on our sciatica page.
