Back Pain Treatment Chiswick

Back Pain Treatment Chiswick

Chiswick and our Isleworth clinic are both in the London Borough of Hounslow, and people with back pain come to us from across the borough for care from a chiropractor and physiotherapist working as one team. If you’ve already had treatment and your back still isn’t right, we’d be glad to take a fresh look.

You don’t need a referral. Same day or next day appointments are often available, we open six days a week including evenings and weekends, and we are rated 5.0 from 100 reviews.

Back Pain That Hasn’t Responded to Treatment Elsewhere

Back pain that carries on after a course of treatment is frustrating, but it doesn’t mean your back is beyond help. Sometimes the pain was coming from a joint when the plan focused on muscle. Sometimes the plan was right but finished before your back could cope with real life. And sometimes hands on care wasn’t backed by exercise that built on it.

At your first visit we start by asking what has been tried, what helped even briefly and what made things worse. If you have notes from earlier treatment, or reports from scans, bring them. We work from our own assessment, without assuming the earlier diagnosis was right or wrong, and we explain what we find in plain language.

Sometimes the answer is a different mix of treatment. Occasionally it’s a conversation with your GP or a specialist, and if that’s what you need, we’ll tell you straight.

Why Two Professions Can Make the Difference

Chiropractic tends to look closely at the joints and spine. Physiotherapy tends to look at movement, strength and rehab. Many clinics offer one or the other. Here the two views meet in a single plan, so if one approach has reached its limit, you don’t have to start again somewhere new.

Khalil Hussein, our clinic director, is qualified as both a physiotherapist and a chiropractor, and specialises in chronic pain and injury rehabilitation. Malaika Hussain is a chiropractor with a focus on women’s health. Our practitioners are registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), and we accept insurance, so ask the team about your provider when you book.

A Plan for Long Term Back Pain

Long term back pain usually needs a plan, not another short course. For ongoing musculoskeletal and nerve related pain, we build individualised treatment plans, and you can read more on our chronic pain management page.

NICE places advice to keep active and guidance on self management at the heart of its approach to low back pain. That shapes how we work. We aim to understand what keeps your pain going, settle the sore areas with hands on treatment, and build exercise up in steps until you’re back to the things that matter to you.

Between visits, our PhysiTrack app lets you message your practitioner, follow your exercises and track your progress. Follow up sessions run for 15 to 30 minutes with one practitioner, so the plan gets adjusted as you respond.

We won’t promise a cure. What we aim for is less pain, easier movement and more confidence in your back, and your first appointment gives you an estimate of recovery time so you know what to expect.

Back Pain We Treat

We treat the full range of back problems, including mechanical low back pain, sciatica and herniated or bulging discs. Pain that has lasted a long time is often linked to facet joint dysfunction, spinal stenosis or degenerative disc disease.

If you’re not sure which applies to you, that’s what the assessment is for. Our spinal and back conditions page gives you more detail on each.

What Your First Visit Involves

No referral is needed, so you can book directly, online or by phone. Your first appointment is a 60 minute initial consultation. Bring any notes or scan reports from earlier treatment, along with a short list of what you’ve already tried.

We begin with your story, then carry out a full body functional assessment of your movement, posture and joint function. You’ll hear what we think is going on, what your options are and how long recovery might take. Treatment can start in the same session if you’re ready, and you leave with exercises set up in PhysiTrack.

When Back Pain Needs Urgent Medical Attention

Long standing pain is one thing, but new symptoms are another. The NHS says to call 999 or go to A&E for back or leg pain with changes in bladder or bowel control, numbness around the genitals or anus, new weakness in the legs or feet, or numbness, tingling or burning in both legs or feet. Chest pain or breathlessness alongside back pain also needs emergency help.

It recommends an urgent GP appointment or a call to 111 if you feel hot, shivery or generally unwell, or if severe pain begins suddenly or quickly gets worse. If any of this applies to you, get that help first.

Back Pain Treatment FAQs

Can you help if physio or chiropractic hasn’t worked for me?
Often a different approach, or a different mix of approaches, can help, though we can’t promise results. We’ll review what has been tried, assess your back afresh and tell you honestly whether treatment here is likely to help, or whether you should see your GP or a specialist.

What should I bring to my first visit?
Any notes or reports from earlier treatment, including scan results, and a short list of what you’ve already tried and how it went. If you don’t have any of that, come anyway. The assessment doesn’t depend on it.

Will I need a scan?
Usually not at the start. NICE advises against routine imaging for low back pain in non specialist settings, and says to consider it in specialist settings only if the result is likely to change management. If your case is an exception, we’ll say so.

Is it too late to treat back pain I’ve had for years?
Not necessarily. Long standing pain can still improve with the right plan, though it often takes longer to build up than a recent strain. We can’t promise a cure, but your first appointment will give you an estimate of recovery time.

Do I need a referral?
No. You can book directly with us for physio, chiropractic or rehab sessions. If you plan to claim on private medical insurance, check your provider’s requirements beforehand, as some have their own rules.
