Our clinic is in neighbouring Isleworth, and people from Twickenham come to us for back pain treatment from a chiropractor and physiotherapist working in one team. If your back has been sore for weeks, locks up after a run or a long drive, or sends pain down your leg, you can be seen without a long wait. Same day or next day appointments are often available, with evening and weekend slots.
We are rated 5.0 from 100 reviews and more than 1,000 patients have trusted us with their pain and injuries. Below you’ll find what the guidelines say works, who we are, and how to judge any clinic you’re considering, including ours.
Back pain treatments come with a lot of marketing. The most reliable guide is NICE, which reviews the evidence for the NHS.
NICE says manual therapy, such as spinal manipulation, mobilisation or massage, can be considered for low back pain, but only as part of a package that also includes exercise. It also advises keeping active and learning to self manage for people likely to improve quickly.
The same guideline is clear about what to leave out. NICE advises against offering traction, acupuncture or ultrasound for low back pain. You may still see these advertised, so it’s worth knowing where the evidence stands before you pay for a course of treatment.
That is why we build care around three things: an accurate assessment, hands on treatment where it suits you, and exercise you can carry on at home.
Khalil Hussein, our clinic director, is qualified as both a physiotherapist and a chiropractor, and specialises in chronic pain and injury rehabilitation. Malaika Hussain, our chiropractor, has a focus on women’s health, including pregnancy and postpartum care. Our practitioners are registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Having both professions on site means your treatment follows your back, not the title of whoever you happened to book. Joint work, soft tissue work and rehab exercise can all sit in one plan, built by people who talk to each other. We accept insurance too, so ask the team about your provider when you book.
Twickenham is known as the home of English rugby, and plenty of people here play, run or train. Sport asks a lot of the spine: twisting, impact, heavy loading and repetition, often squeezed in around a desk job.
A sudden twinge during a game, or a nagging ache that builds across a training block, usually needs more than rest. You need to know what is irritating, what you can keep doing and how to build back to full training. That plan is part of what we offer, and our page on sports and overuse injuries explains more. Tell us what you play and how often, and we’ll shape your rehab around it.
There are several good options around Twickenham, so it helps to know what to look for. These are the questions we’d ask in your place.
Who will assess me, and for how long? A rushed first visit tends to produce a rushed plan. Ours is a 60 minute initial consultation, and follow up sessions run for 15 to 30 minutes with one practitioner.
Will I leave with a diagnosis and a plan? You should hear what is likely causing your pain, how long recovery might take and what your options are, not just receive a treatment and a rebooking card.
How will my progress be tracked? We use the PhysiTrack app, where you can message your practitioner, follow your exercises and see how you’re doing between visits.
Will the clinic tell me when I need someone else? A good one will. If your symptoms point to something that needs a GP, a scan or a specialist, we’ll tell you so and point you the right way.
We treat the full range of spinal and back problems, including mechanical low back pain, sciatica and herniated or bulging discs. We also see facet joint dysfunction, sacroiliac joint pain and postural issues.
You don’t need to know which one you have before you book. Naming it is the job of the assessment. Our spinal and back conditions page lists everything we cover.
Your initial consultation begins with your story: where it hurts, what sets it off and what you want your back to do again. We then run a full body functional assessment, looking at your movement, posture and joint function.
You’ll get a plain explanation of what we find, an estimate of recovery time and your treatment options. If you’re ready, treatment can start in the same session, and you’ll leave with your first exercises set up in PhysiTrack.
The NHS says to call 999 or go to A&E if back or leg pain comes with changes in bladder or bowel control, numbness around the genitals or anus, new weakness in the legs or feet, or numbness, tingling or burning in both legs or feet. Chest pain or breathlessness alongside back pain is also an emergency.
If you feel hot, shivery or generally unwell with back pain, or severe pain starts suddenly or quickly gets worse, the NHS advises an urgent GP appointment or a call to 111. In any of these cases, get that help before you see us.
We are at 14B St John’s Road, Isleworth, London TW7 6NN. Put the postcode into your maps app or public transport planner for the best route from where you are, or use our directions link. We are open six days a week, with evening and weekend appointments, and you can reach the team on +44 20 3137 7198.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on the cause, how long you’ve had the pain and what you need your back to do. We won’t quote a number before we’ve examined you. At your first appointment you’ll get an estimated recovery time, and we adjust the plan as you respond.
What should I wear to my appointment?
Comfortable, loose clothing you can move in, such as gym wear. We’ll need to see how your back moves, so avoid anything restrictive.
Is it safe to keep running or playing sport with back pain?
Often some activity is fine, and NICE includes advice to keep active in its guidance for people likely to improve quickly. The right amount depends on what is causing your pain. Tell us what you do and we’ll advise on what to continue, change or pause.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes, we accept insurance. Some insurers have their own requirements, such as a referral, so check with your provider and ask our team when you book.
Will treatment hurt?
We explain what we plan to do before we do it, and treatment is adapted to what your assessment shows. Some people notice mild soreness for a day or so after hands on work, which usually settles. If anything worries you, say so and we’ll change course.
If your back is holding you back, there’s no reason to wait. Book your 60 minute initial consultation online or call +44 20 3137 7198. Same day and next day appointments are often available.
Don’t wait to feel better. Book your consultation now and let us help you move freely and live pain free.
