Sciatica Treatment in Feltham

Sciatica Treatment in Feltham

Sciatica is pain that follows the sciatic nerve, most often felt from the lower back or buttock down the leg. Our chiropractors and physiotherapists treat it together at our clinic in Isleworth, for people across Feltham and West London.

You don’t need to wait it out on your own. Same day or next day appointments are often available, and we open six days a week, including evenings and weekends. We are rated 5.0 from 100 reviews and trusted by more than 1,000 patients.

What Sciatica Is and How It Shows Up

Sciatica is a symptom that appears when the sciatic nerve is compressed or irritated. That nerve runs from the lower back through the hips and buttocks and down each leg, so the pain can be felt all along that route.

Most people describe sharp or burning pain, sometimes with numbness or tingling in the buttock, leg or foot. Weakness in the leg can happen too. Sitting for long periods, coughing and sneezing often make it worse, and standing or walking may become difficult.

The leg pain is what separates it from general back pain. The cause differs between people and can include a herniated or bulging disc, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, piriformis syndrome, pregnancy related changes or an injury to the lower spine. Our sciatica page goes into more detail.

Sciatica Treatment Near Feltham: How We Treat It

NICE guideline NG59 says manual therapy such as spinal manipulation, mobilisation or massage should only be offered for low back pain and sciatica as part of a package that includes exercise. Our treatment is built around that, so you get hands on care and exercise together.

Your plan may include chiropractic adjustments to reduce pressure on the nerve and restore movement, physiotherapy to stretch, strengthen and mobilise, and nerve gliding. We also guide you on posture and on pacing your activity, so you can stay active safely.

Follow up sessions last 15 to 30 minutes with one practitioner giving you their full attention. Our custom PhysiTrack app lets you message your practitioner, follow your exercises and track your progress between visits.

A Chiropractor and a Physiotherapist in One Place

Seeing both professions in the same clinic means your care can change as your sciatica does. Early on you may need more hands on work. Later, rehab exercise often matters more.

Khalil Hussein, our clinic director, is dual qualified as a physiotherapist and chiropractor and specialises in chronic pain and injury rehabilitation. Malaika Hussain is a chiropractor with a focus on women’s health. Our practitioners are registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Sciatica and Time Spent Sitting

If your pain builds up through the day, sitting may be part of the story. Long periods in one position, whether at a desk, behind the wheel or on the sofa, can aggravate sciatica.

That is why treatment includes posture and ergonomic guidance for work, home and daily activities, alongside the hands on care. The aim is for you to understand what is feeding the problem, not only to feel better for a few days.

Sciatica in Pregnancy

Pregnancy related changes can bring on sciatica. We specialise in pregnancy and postpartum care, combining chiropractic care with rehab exercise. Mention that you are pregnant when you book, so we can plan your appointment.

What Happens at Your First Visit

Your first appointment is a 60 minute initial consultation.

  1. A full body functional assessment of how you move, including posture, joint function and muscle balance.
  2. A plain English explanation of what we find, with time for questions.
  3. A clear diagnosis, an estimated recovery time and the treatment options.
  4. Hands on treatment in the same session, if you are happy to.
  5. A plan for between visits, with your exercises set up in PhysiTrack.

We treat you on day one, so you never leave with only a diagnosis. Later visits are shorter and focused on how you are progressing.

How Long Sciatica Takes to Improve

NHS advice is that sciatica usually gets better in 4 to 6 weeks, though it can last longer. Your own timeline depends on the cause, how long you have had it and what you need to get back to.

We don’t set a number of sessions before examining you. At your first appointment you will get an estimated recovery time and the options available, and we adjust as you respond.

When Sciatica Needs Emergency Care

Most sciatica is painful but not dangerous. Some symptoms need urgent medical attention instead of a clinic appointment.

The NHS advises calling 999 or going to A&E if you have back or leg pain with changes in bladder or bowel control, loss of feeling around the genitals or anus, numbness, tingling or burning in both legs or feet, or new weakness in the legs or feet. It advises an urgent GP appointment or a call to NHS 111 if you feel hot, shivery or generally unwell, or if severe pain starts suddenly or gets worse quickly.

If any of that applies, please don’t wait for an appointment with us.

Sciatica Treatment FAQs

Q. Can a chiropractor treat sciatica?
Yes, and it is one of the conditions we see most often. Chiropractic care aims to reduce pressure on the irritated nerve, and we combine it with physiotherapy exercise to support lasting improvement.

Q. Should I see a chiropractor or a physiotherapist for sciatica?
Either can help, and your assessment decides the approach. With both in the clinic, many people receive hands on treatment alongside exercise.

Q. Do I need a GP referral?
In most cases you can book with us directly, online or by phone. If you plan to claim on private medical insurance, check your provider’s requirements first, as some have their own rules.

Q. Will treatment hurt?
We explain what we plan to do before we do it, and adapt treatment to your assessment. Some people feel mild soreness for a day or so after hands on work, which usually settles. If anything worries you during a session, tell us and we will change course.

Q. Can you treat sciatica during pregnancy?
Yes. We care for pregnancy and postpartum pain, combining chiropractic care with rehab exercise. Malaika Hussain has a particular focus on women’s health.
